Causes and Bias of Cory Monteith Affiliation Causes and Bias of Cory Monteith Monteith was born in 1982 in Calgary, Alberta. hewas the younger son of McGregor an interior decorator and Monteith Joe a military man that served in the “Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. He was brought up together with his brother known as Shaun. His parents had a divorce when he was only seven years old. Following the divorce, their mother who shifted to Victoria, British Columbia brought up Monteith and his elder brother. After the divorce, it was difficult to meet his father Joe due to his military involvement and Monteith experienced social difficulties in school since he was thirteen years when he started using marijuana and alcohol and began to skip school (Daily Mail Reporter, 2013). Monteith dropped out of school after attending sixteen schools, which include an alternative program for troubled teens. By the time he dropped from school, his alcohol, drug dependency had increased, and he turned to pretty crimes like stealing money from his family and friends in order to fund his addictions. However, his turning point in his life was experienced when he was nineteen years when his mother and her friends staged and intervention. After the intervention, he claimed that he was lucky to be alive; in 2011, he eventually received a high school diploma from an alternative school that he attended in Victoria. Before joining the show business, he had been involved in a number of jobs, which include taxicab driver, school bus driver, roofer and a mechanic (Jory, 2011). Monteith started his acting career in the British Columbia in Vancouver. He was involved in minor roles in Whisper, Final Destination 3 as well as Deck the Halls. He also made guest appearances in a number of television series like Supernatural, Smallville, Flash Gordon, Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. In 2005, he made an appearance in the Killer Bash about a tormented geek’s soul, which was taking revenge on the murderers of his children by taking over the body of twin’s girl. In addition, he shot the film Brothers and Sisters with Milligan Dustin that premiered at the Toronto Film Festival in September 2011 (Daily Mail Reporter, 2013). In 2009, he was cast in the Glee series in Fox. In the film, he portrayed Hudson Finn, who was a star in the quarterback of his football team in high school and risks hostility from his friends since he had joined the school’s glee club. Finn is a trendy jock at the top social hierarchy in school, but after being forced to join the Glee club, he later came to love it. Monteith started working with the American actor Michele Lea in 2009 when they cast being love interests on Glee (Strachan, 2009). However, in 2012 the media claimed that they had started dating and remained together until he passed on after one and a half years later. In July 2013, at Fairmont Pacific Rim a hotel in Vancouver, Monteith was discovered dead in his room. The Police Department of Vancouver stated that the cause of his death was not apparent immediately, but later was later ruled to be foul play. An autopsy was carried out later by the Coroners Service on the 15th July and it was discovered that he was killed by a mixture drug toxicity comprising of alcohol an heroin and his death appeared as accidental. The Coroners Service released a final report later in October 2013 that confirmed these findings. The report also indicated that Monteith’s system also had morphine and codeine at the time he met his death. He was also found with drug paraphernalia, which included a spoon having drug residue and used a hypodermic needle and two empty champagne bottles. The Coroner claimed that he had experienced intermittent drug periods of abstinence and drug abuse through his entire life. His body was later cremated on July 17 in Vancouver following a confidential viewing by his immediate girlfriend and family. Later his girlfriend and Glee creator held a Monteith life celebration in Los Angeles that was attended by crew, cast, as well as the creators of the show and may colleagues from the studio and show’s networks (Daily Mail Reporter, 2013). Section Two In my opinion, I feel that Monteith has met my expectations. His problems of addiction were triggered by the problems he experienced back at home when his parents divorced. His mother brought him up together with his brother after the divorce. His father was busy since he worked in the military and did not have time pay them a visit. Therefore, his addiction problem was triggered by family problems they faced being brought up by their mum alone. It must have been difficult since they missed a father figure in their life and only had to rely on their mother. Addiction is a process and since it started at a very tender age, it was difficult for Monteith to deal with it (Lowry, 2013). Maybe they were not stable at home because Monteith was involved in a number of odd jobs like being a mechanic, a taxicab driver, school bus driver and a roofer. All these occurrences show that maybe the family was going through a hard time when the parents divorced since the mother had to take care of the Monteith and his brother. I have learnt that when one is involved in addiction it should be taken seriously a large number of individuals that are involved in addiction in most cases end up being victims of drugs. Monteith may have found that the only way to solve his problems was through drugs. However, drugs do not solve the problem, but increase the problem further. Therefore, it is important to take drug addiction serious in the society to avoid cases of death due to over dosage or abuse of the drugs. It is evident that drug addiction largely begins in schools since a large number of students have bad company. Monteith began taking drugs at a very tender age and the mother learnt of it later when he was nineteen years. I feel that drugs cannot solve any problem since he landed himself into more trouble; he attended sixteen schools before he gave up school (Judd, 2013). This means that he was still on drugs when he was attending those schools and that is the reason he would not cope in any school. He later joined a nice career where he performed exemplary well, but was largely affected by addiction until he passed on. This means he has lived with addiction since he was a small boy and was not able to quite even later in life when he joined the acting fraternity. In most instances addicts find solace in drugs and cannot openly share their problems with their friends and partners, but result to taking many hard drugs in large quantities in an attempt to solve their problems. Monteith has clearly reflected the importance of sharing ones problems instead of engaging in drugs since it is difficult to quit drugs. Before the investigation, I viewed Monteith as role model and an individual one would look up to due to his active role in the movie industry. He played his role perfectly in Glee and everybody admired him and his character (Malkin, 2011). A large number of individuals who watched him on Glee always shared positive views about him and admired him most. Monteith decided to change his ways after his mother and a number of friends decided to intervene since he was completely lost in drugs. At the age of nineteen, he began going to rehabilitation and he counted himself lucky since he had not met his death. After completing his rehabilitation program, he eventually went back to schools and later in 2011; he graduated from high school where he had been attending an alternative school in Victoria. Monteith transformed his life and before joining the show business, he worked as s taxicab driver, school bus driver, roofer and a mechanic. When he went to the show business his addiction might have started again, but no one noticed that he was into drugs once again (Szalavitz, 2013). In addition, his life was not very smooth since a single mother brought him up, but he tried his best fighting addiction and emerged in the show business. Although, he was not perfect he really tried to shape his life by fighting addiction. References Daily Mail Reporter, (2013).
