Task Working With and Leading People A team comprises of a collection of individuals. Teams usually perform better than individuals because they usually exert more energy and techniques when exercising their duties. The members of the team at Tesco usually collaborate on several issues with the aim of achieving the organization’s objectives. When the team comes together to perform their duties and this results in the distribution of the work load amongst the workers. This facilitates the occurrence of job specialization with the appropriate workers being chosen for the right jobs (Mathis and Jackson, 2010). The individual abilities of the members are also reinforced as a result of working as a group. This is because the workers share their experiences and help each other out in times of difficulties. The members working in the team are also able to learn and apply their new skills in the course of executing their tasks. Working as a team enables the establishment of participation and the involvement of all team members in Tesco’s activities. This ensures that their assigned activities are performed efficiently and quickly. The decisions that are made as a result of a team working together as a group are better than the decisions an individual makes. The team members incorporate their collective experiences and skills before making a decision (Mathis and Jackson, 2010). The use of brainstorming enables the generation of ideas from different members of the group and helps in bringing in new ideas to the group. Working as a team also enables the members to feel confident of the results they present to the organization,. This is because the ideas generated by the members undergo the necessary criticisms and cross examinations before the decisions are reached. The active participation of the team members enables the generation of many diverse concepts within the organization. They eventually assist the organization in achieving their set objectives. The concepts and ideas that the team members suggest are considered as alternatives when similar problems occur (Drucker and Ferdinar, 2006). Decision making in a team is slow though most of the times the most appropriate decisions are reached. The harmonious working of the members of a team leads to an increase in their satisfaction. The speed of accomplishing events in the organization is also increased because of the collaboration between the team members. A worker requires to have a problem solving ability as this enables him to handle complex situations. These assists the workers in meeting their employer’s targets in the course of their duties. The workers should have the ability to work under minimum supervision as it enables the organization to meet their set objectives efficiently. The members of the team should also be able to communicate effectively. This ensures that no problems occur in the performance of their respective duties due to communication. The members of a team should be able to adapt to the working conditions in the organization (Kerzner, 2009). This ensures that they perform their duties well without affecting the normal operations of the organization while getting the required satisfaction. All the members in a team should show high levels of honesty and trust as it enables them to be viewed as accountable and responsible. To ensure the effectiveness of the team, the members should engage in communal activities to ensure the members spend enough time together. Such activities enable the members to build closer bonds among themselves. Sessions that assist the team in bonding also enable the team members to build their confidence and creativities. They end up performing their tasks in the best way to ensure the organizational objectives have been met. The team members should engage themselves in development activities to build their personalities (Witzel, 2004). This can be done through individual plans that are issued to the team as a whole. The team should engage in activities that will also advance their activities of developing the organization. This includes their efforts of obtaining information from the organizations customers. The team leader should have the abilities to organize, plan, control, staff and direct the organization and the workers towards achieving their set goals. The leaders should involve themselves in selecting missions, goals and objectives that will be beneficial for the organization. They should also develop strategies to help the workers of Tesco in achieving their set objectives. As a team leader one should have the ability to prescribe formal relationships among the workers and the resources they are using to accomplish the organizations goals (Koontz and Weinrich, 2006). Team leaders should possess the ability to recruit qualified people to the organization. This ensures that they will be able to perform quality jobs while producing quality products. This aids the organization in ensuring that it always has enough qualified workers to meet their short and long term objectives. Leaders should have the ability to direct their workers as this ensures that they display the most appropriate behavior’s at all times. This involves the leaders motivating, leading and communicating the aspects of organizational behavior to their workers. A good leader should be able to compare the actual performances in a company against Tesco’s set standards. They should be able to take the necessary corrective actions to ensure that the organization’s activities run uninterrupted. The controlling of the organization’s activities ensures that the organization’s performance of activities conforms to the set standards (Drucker and Ferdinar, 2006). The team leaders should also possess the ability to solve their problems adequately while communicating effectively with all members of the team. In order to solve the problems that the workers and the organization encounter in their activities the leadership should adopt several measures. This measures will range from negotiating with the workers, bargaining and mediating between parties that have conflicts of interest. Workers who have disputes regarding the use of the organizations resources will be required forward their problems to the leaders. The leaders will in turn decide on the appropriate measures that should be taken. The organization will adopt the concepts of Khun and Poole in managing problems within the team. This concepts emphasize that the results obtained are positive and constant with compromises required to avert one side from losing (Kerzner, 2009). They also emphasize on the importance of integrating the goals of different team members with the organizational goals. This will assist the organization in effectively achieving their set standards and goals since conflicts will have been eliminated. The team’s effectiveness in achieving the organizations goal was subjected to different types of tests. This was done through the use of team interviews to gauge the workers satisfaction. The comparisons done between the actual performance against the set standards also enabled the determination of the teams effectiveness in meeting the objectives. In order to determine its profitability level a financial analysis of the organization was made (Witzel, 2004)). The team was found to have been effective in utilizing the resources of the organization. Bibliography Drucker, P., and Ferdinar, P. 2006.
