Art and Gender Book Review Feminine beautification is an aspect of inequality although it is largely advocated for by women. In most instances, feminists have attempted to encourage women to ignore the overwhelming demands for beauty so that they can concentrate on acquisition of political and social equality. Other parties have claimed that beauty is an evolutionary force or an avenue leading to feminine power. The topic of beautification ought to be revisited due to the varying arguments between feminists.

Feminine beautification is said to raise various issues including aesthetic creativity and coercion. In spite of the varying viewpoints, various scholars tend to agree that feminine beautification is oppressing and advances the aspect of gender inequality. Although beautification cannot be dismissed immediately, it continues to show limitations on the side of the females. Generally, beautification tends to support the idea that women’s bodies are flawed and require excessive attention to acquire self-confidence.

This is because women must do perform various beautification procedures before they can appear in the public. In addition, through beautification, women tend to show what they want the public to see but not who they really are. This indicates further lack of self-confidence. The other important aspect in women beautification is time. Women require significant amount of time to undertake the beautification procedures. Here, women require more than two hours for preparing fully before appearing in the public.

This is in contrast to men who require at most ten minutes for preparing. This clearly indicates that they do not have time to concentrate with equality; therefore, it persists.
