?Domestic Violence Affiliation with more information about affiliation, research grants, conflict of interest and how to contact Topic:  domestic violence: 1) The title of the article “Domestic Violence and Immigrant Communities in the United States: A Review of women’s Unique Needs and Recommendations for Social Work Practice and Research” is effective and appropriate in the sense that it provides a very quick glance into what is expected from the Article and the main theme of the article. The title is specific with respect to that the focus is on the women who are the victims of domestic violence. The author of the article has not used yes/no question in the title of the article but has simply pointed the main topic of discussion which is domestic violence. The title identifies the variables in the study and the types of people who participated in the research process in the article. The article deals with a very social problem which is domestic violence and which has been on an increasing trend in the US. There is no specific focus on theories and therefore the title of the article also does not contain the mention of any specific theories. But one of the identified negative aspects in the title of the article is that the title is too long and further it is divided into two sections one is “Domestic Violence and Immigrant Communities in the United States: A Review of women’s Unique Needs” and the other portion is “Recommendations for Social Work Practice and Research”. From the title of the article it is understood that the main focus is on the domestic violence and immigrant communities in the US. Under the marking system the title of the article can be awarded 4 points.  2) With reference to the abstract of the article it is effective and appropriate. In the abstract it has been clearly stated that the focus will be on the literature review which has discovered that across several disciplines from the last five years data reveals that a significant increase in the domestic violence cases and immigrant communities in the United States has been reported. In the abstract it has been stated that the main method used has been literature analysis and literature analysis is the most appropriate methodology which can be used for social research purposes. The highlights of the results have not been described in details but only a brief outlook has been provided. The abstract states that Literature review has been provided and also recommendations have been stated which is appropriate for any abstract. The abstract states that complete interferences at both macro as well as micro levels have been provided to reduce domestic violence in immigrant communities. The abstract also states that future directions have been provided. Analyzing the abstract of the article the abstract can be awarded 4 points. The reason of awarding 4point is that the abstract could contain more statistical information regarding the percentage of population who experience domestic violence in the US especially among immigrant communities. “Abstracts should not include references top tables and figures, descriptions of published work, or reference citations. Conclude the abstract with one or two major points of discussion” (Smith, 1998, P. 93) 3) To begin with the introduction and the literature review are effective and appropriate. The researcher has provided a very satisfactory introduction which states that every intimate relationship has a contained risk of domestic violence. The researcher begins by identifying the specific problem area of domestic violence. It has been stated in the introduction itself the literature which is analyzed is mainly for the period of the past five years. In the literature review strong evidence of literature regarding the patriarchal cultural values, the social acceptance of violence has been provided. In the literature review section it has been stated that cultural differences are related to the perception of domestic violence against women. In the social acceptance of violence the researcher has stated that domestic violence is accepted and considered as a very menial affair by the women immigrants in the US especially those who have emigrated from the south Asian countries. The most important point which is stated in the literature review section is that domestic violence upon female victims has never been treated as an issue of importance in society as many cultures have reported of a tolerating or ignoring history of domestic violence. The researcher has accurately stated that the issue of domestic violence is of high social importance and therefore the inferences of both the perpetrators who are mainly male counterparts as well as victims should have a say in the study. It is stated in the introduction itself that the future research recommendations has been provided so the introduction and the literature review that has been provided is satisfactory and therefore can be awarded full points and can be graded as 5. Domestic violence is a distressing problem that the society is facing. Children are often the indirect victims of the domestic violence. Many studies have proved that domestic violence result in the risk of changing the behavior of the child. The researcher has also stated the importance of honor killings and has stated that recent researches indicate that there has been a rise in the domestic violence against women especially in the form of honor killings. The domestic violence on female victims can to great extent be minimized by providing an adequate program to the perpetrators of the crime which is the male population. Domestic violence is occurring due to the quest to control the partner through fear. The researcher has accurately stated hat the pressure to acculturate is one of the methods of abuse used by the immigrant communities in domestic violence. Male members of the house are usually the perpetrators of the violence and they indulge in abusing the female members physically, sexually, psychologically and economically with the patriarchal notion that women are subordinates of men. In spite of modernization this patriarchal notion has not changed and it is the children at home who have to suffer for this. Domestic violence is done in different forms, that is, it can be in the form of physical and verbal abuse. Sexual violence and harassment is also included in domestic violence. In the literature a wide variety of authors work has been included and covered. The study addresses the problem of domestic violence that disproportionably affects poor, needy, and all at-risk populations. The researcher has provided conceptual definitions of key terms and has provided a very critical literature review. The researcher has provided factual statements stating the facts of how Arab immigrant communities view domestic violence and providing details in percentage form. The researcher has provided a difference between opinions and research findings and stated that some sections of the society even believe that reciprocating against domestic violence will lead to a social stigma and leads to social isolation. In the literature review the researcher has accurately identified that there is lack of cultural competence in helping the victims especially of immigrant communities. The literature review and the introduction section have been awarded complete and full marks and this part can be rated as 5 points. 4) Accurate sample has not been chosen for generalizing. The sampling technique that has been used is diverse. The researcher does not indicate the need for an appropriate sampling technique and simply provides the details of sample by way of literature review which provides details and necessary evidence but no primary research has been conducted. The emphasis has been mostly on secondary research. This part of the article can be rated as 3 points as the data of both primary as well as secondary research can comparatively provide more accurate details rather than simply relying on secondary data. 5) The instrumentation used by the researcher is not adequate. No actual items, questions, and/or directions have been used by the researcher. The Researcher has not collected the data using culturally appropriate methods or instruments therefore this part of the article can be rated as 2 points only. 6) The study design here mentioned is not properly considering the unique social, cultural or gender characteristics of the research topic. The study reveals that the factors associated with the domestic violence are among different cultures are both related to the studies of the western subjects and exclusive to each particular culture. This is not sure as the different culture in the world has its own ideas and their limitations which will define the similar matters in a different way and here it is not discussed clearly. One author suggests that the most of the South Asian cultures are patriarchal in nature and spiritual viewpoints are profoundly persuading the societal prop up method of immigrant women within the US. It is not discussing the whole US conditions and how the domestic violence has socially influencing the development of the country. It says the violence against the immigrant woman in US is not taken seriously by the media and they are acting the victim women as a lower class citizen. The work has demonstrating the domestic violence by the men against women as the superior men can do those if the opposite side starts first. The study also makes the point on racism in which the law enforcement and social service necessities are there to reduce the probability that the refugee women will follow aid from a locally insulting state. Disgrace and discredit are supposed by many immigrant women to be further injurious than permanent home violence. The public leaders are dedicated to keep hold of the enlightening principles in US that the survival of the communal troubles and requirements of badly treated women are often deprived of and unnoticed. They are describing these social, cultural and gender features are directly linked with the religious views. As the different cultural and religious peoples coming to the US have different views, the country is not influenced by these and the women of these cultures have addressed less domestic violence and they are mostly subjected to the violence according to their views. They have to consider as not being sensitive to the sole features of the study sample. They have to think about the history of the country and the past cultures. They have to intensely analyze the relative background and have to consider all religious views persisting in the country. 7) The entire topic has tried to clear the matters in a good way. But the lack of the primary data and its discussion on the result part makes it an unsatisfactory project. The secondary data is collected by the researcher in the project and is short of primary data and totally the presentation of the results has proved an inadequate one. The result section is not a cohesive essay as it is written with various points on the immigrant problems in the US. An excellent conclusion or an understandable report at the end will always show the way to a cohesive essay. The researcher is trying to refer back the topic he mentioned in the introduction. But the statistics of the women immigrants and their ratios are not mentioned in the table format. The statistics mentioned in the research topic is not descriptive and it is only a ratio obtained from some of the literatures. So the researcher is not clear of its statistical significance. So this results section of the article can give 5 points and is only in satisfactory grade. 8) The discussion is effective and appropriate. The researcher does not acknowledge their methodological limitations. The results discussed in terms of the literature have been cited in the introduction. The specific implications have been discussed and future suggestions for research purposes have been stated. The researcher has distinguished between speculation and data based conclusions. It can be clearly understood that the article lacks data based conclusions instead it is focused on the data gathered by literature review. This part of the article can be rated as 4 points. Since the study is not a experimental study therefore the other questions need to be addressed. It is a social research paper on the issue of Domestic Violence and Immigrant Communities in the United States: A Review of woman’s Unique Needs and Recommendations for Social Work Practice and Research. In total the research article is impressive except for little changes. Reference List Smith, RV. (1998). Graduate research: a guide for students in the sciences.
