Assessment Provides Insight Assessment Provides Insight Personally, the earlier posting on some of the treatment and measures that surround the issue of interpersonal deficits and communication weaknesses among children acted as an eye-opener. From the posting made by my colleague, it is clear that she investigated some of the factors surrounding the topic in question, and came up with the strengths and weaknesses of the research conducted. It is particularly interesting to note that the method of data collection may not be necessarily be viewed as an avenue to find out what the larger population represents, but may provide the researcher with an avenue to observe the participants after the case study is complete.

One question that I may ask about this assessment is whether the ages of the participants were taken into consideration while carrying out the assessment (Semrud-Clikeman, 2007). While doing research on my own, I found it crucial to examine the age aspect in order to fully comprehend what most of the participants were lacking, as compared to children their own age with little or no deficits. In my experience, paying attention to children with mild disabilities may not necessarily build on their competence.

It is my belief that the therapy suggested by my colleague is a way in which conversational proficiency can be improved among the participants, but as pointed earlier, programming and special attention may not always improve their competence. Enabling them to be aware of social norms may enhance some of their competencies, as this may allow them to be aware of when to fully utilize their skills (Semrud-Clikeman, 2007). A suggestion to my colleague on the research conducted would be to provide both the pros and cons of the data collection methods used.

This is so as to provide the reader with enough evidence to support the issues identified, and allow them make a full evaluation on what is best in such a situation.ReferencesCurran, J.P. (1982). A procedure for the assessment of social skills: The simulated social interaction test. In J.P. Curran & P.M. Monti (Eds.), Social skills training (pp. 348-398). New York: Guilford.Semrud-Clikeman, M. (2007). Social competence in children. New York: American Printing Press.
