Research paper nursing Part One: Article Review The field of nursing is associated with numerous negative impressions when it is a question of carrying out extensive research. This made the scholars to come up with conditions, which would ensure that the nurses concentrate with the research and work. These researches gave rise to evidence based practices otherwise known as EBP. This makes it possible for the nurses to value their research and practices in their work places. These researches have also led to numerous reports being written and justifying the issues interfering with the nurses. These practices have ensured that the nurses extend their learning capabilities and technological knowledge. This knowledge has helped them implement better working conditions for their patients. This is due to the fact that, the research they carryout are legit and might be applicable for future references. However, there are instances when there are barriers to these researches and implementations. This has made it impossible for some nurses not to use their literature skills in ensuring that the working conditions are favorable for them. The articles written by medical scholars can address these issues. Evidence-Based Nursing Regulation: A Challenge for Regulators by Nancy Spector, PhD, RN The article gives an overview of the issues that the nurses usually face as they are carrying out their duties in hospitals. The first issue that they normally encounter is associated with the changing technology. This makes them to always stay up to date with changes taking place in the nursing field in order for them retain their practice. These technological changes have contributed to advance system thinking when it is a question of patient safety and treatment. These changes have also made it possible for patients to live longer with chronic diseases and the making the nurses lost for words when it comes to explanation of the occurrences (Spector, 2013). The second issue involves the education system that the nurses nowadays engage in. it has been realized that the nursing education is transforming at a fast pace as the nursing boards witness fraudulent and substandard education program offered in some institutions. This has made work difficult for the board members as they have to ensure that the nurses who are employed have attained the required education. The final issue that the nursing department usually deals with is the disciplinary issues. It has been noticed that the nurses have lost their grip when it comes to disciplinary issues for the past ten years. This has made the nursing boards to come up with disciplinary measures, which are seen to be harsh to the offenders. These three issues can easily be curbed with the introduction of evidence-based regulation. This is a strategy that sees to it that decision making that takes place involve quality ideology. The learning objectives, which are stated in the article, are shown to dwell more on the future implication of the idea. The first objective is to ensure that the regulations given to the nurses are evidence based (Spector, 2013). This is followed by indicating six steps, which are normally used in implementation of these regulations. The article is also involved in indicating three essential strategies used in ensuring that the regulations are enacted in the best manner. The article start by indicating that the nursing board is having a difficult time in the implementation of the evidence based regulation for the nurses. The six steps that are indicated in enacting these regulations are indicated in a systematic review. The first step involves the formulation of the question. This means that the researchers would have to look at some of the problems that the regulation faces in form of a question so as it would be answered. This is followed by identifying and collection of evidence. The published results are retrieved by the researchers. The researchers will then have to validate the evidence in form of appraising the quality of the evidence. They will look at the effects, relevance and the nature of the impact to the system. Step four involves processing of the data where the researchers will integrate the values of protections for the public. They will also look at the results then look at the policies in terms of community policies where there will be identity of the best practices (Spector, 2013). The final stage involves evaluating process proposed in an efficient and effective manner. Evidence-Based Health Care in Nursing Regulation By: Nancy Spector, PhD, RN The author Nancy Spector has looked at evidence based regulations in the healthcare departments in a wide spectrum. In this article, she sheds light on the nature in which the system is useful in the health care department as a whole. She starts by explaining some of the goals associated with the practice through giving the definition of the practice (Spector, 2012). It is explained to be research evidences, which are best practiced through their integration into the patients and clinical expertise. She admits that the nurses sometimes rely on research findings when it comes to implementation of care for the patients. They would always refer to the data collected and kept at their systems. They normally refer to this practice as research utilization. However, some nurses who have difficulties in differentiation of research utilization and evidence based nursing practices. She continues by indicating the history of the implementation of the evidence based practice. The article indicates that the essential part of the practice is all about evidence and information literacy. It is important to understand that information literacy does not only involve internet skills and computer literacy (Spector, 2012). It involves critical appraisal and the capacity of choosing the appropriate technology in order to attain information. This means that the practicing nurses should have a vast knowledge in different search strategies. This is important for them in order to come up with the best strategy. The article concludes by indicating some of the misconception and misunderstandings that are associated to evidence based practice in nursing. One of the challenges involves the nurses having a problem with differentiating research utilization and the best strategies (Spector, 2012). This has made it difficult for them to understand the best database and having a good critical appraisal. She indicates that it is essential for the nursing board to do a lot of improvement in the evidence based practice in order for the nurses to attain the best. This will be beneficial for the medical fraternity as a whole. Implementation of evidence-based nursing practice: nurses’ personal and professional factors By Michal Mashiach Eizenberg This article is based on a research, which was carried out by the medical practitioners in 2007. The main aim of the research was to find out the relationship, which can be found between the professional and personal factors of the nurses in, regards to evidence based practices (Mashiach, 2011). Before the research was carried out, it was realized that the nursing practice is evolving from the renowned traditional based to the evidence based. The research was done from a professional point of view. It was done to 243 nurses working in Israel in communities and hospitals. The researchers examined evidence based nursing and different variables. It was realized that the nurses behaved professionally in form of evidence based practice as they had degrees but those without could not show signs of the practice. At the same time, the practice was vast in areas where the individuals had libraries with medical and nursing journals as compared to areas without (Mashiach, 2011). The same was witnessed with individuals who had the opportunity of using computers and internet searches in their workplaces. The research indicates that there was emergence of issues which were related to evidence based practices. They include education, skills in advance searching reading of professional literature, and vast knowledge on professional literature. After the research, they concluded that it was important for exposure of the research based information and professional journals. This would also mean that organizations should also have support for evidence based practices in nursing. The article commences by indicating that the professional nursing field is faced with numerous improvement. It has been indicated that they evolution takes place to the evidence based from the traditional institution based practice. The research also looks at some of the issues that have already been highlighted by other researches. It indicates that nurses are being encouraged to implement research results during their decision making as per the requirements of the studies conducted by medical practitioners (Mashiach, 2011). It also indicates that there is a preserved relationship between critical reading and research training when it is a question of professional literature. This means this practice is later transferred in the implementation of evidence based practice (Mashiach, 2011). From the researches that were carried out, it was realized positive attitude is also used as part of the implementation of information acquiring. This makes it possible for the nurses to have interest in accessing more databases in search of information. The article adds that that professional behavior in relation to self-reported issues in nursing should be indicated with the use of degree and higher levels of education. Adopting Evidence-Based Practice in Clinical Decision Making: Nurses’ Perceptions, Knowledge, and Barriers by Shaheen Majid, PhD; Schubert Foo, PhD; Brendan Luyt, PhD; Xue Zhang, MSc; Yin-Leng Theng, PhD; Yun-Ke Chang, PhD; Intan A. Mokhtar, PhD This article has numerous authors with the same perception in regards to evidence based practice in nursing. Their objective was based on ensuring that the nurses are provided with the best initiatives in relation to evidence-based practices. They are urged to use critical appraisal during the implementation of the method (Majid et al, 2011). The methods to be used are those that have already been justified and seen to deliver quality health care to the individuals in a certain population. The researches was based on knowing if the nurses were fully aware of the attitude and knowledge of evidence based practices in terms of factors associated with creating and encouraging barriers during its adaptation. At the same time, the research looked at some of the information sources that nurses used. This was accompanied with the search skills and knowledge of important literatures. The questionnaires were distributed to the registered nurses who resided in Singapore (Majid et al, 2011). The result indicated mixed understanding of the nature used during researches of information by nurses. It was realized that the nurses who gave a positive response were 64%. However, they indicated that they were not able to keep up with the new evidences indicated due to the heavy workload they are involved in at the hospitals. They were also tested on self-efficacy where it was realized that they moderate level of skills in regards to abilities of evidence based practices. The research showed some positivity in regards to encouraging the nurses into participating in evidence based practices. The nurses wanted to be encouraged to the practice through time availability, training and mentoring. The researchers also realized that there were barriers to the implementation of EBP. The first barrier was associated with lack of time. The nurses found it difficult to cope up with the implementation since they had a lot of work in their positions (Majid et al, 2011). The second barrier was the luck of the ability of understanding the statistical language put into practice by the professionals. This is accustomed to the fact that the nurses are used to the nonprofessional language. The nurses indicated that the third barrier was luck of understanding of the jargon, which were indicated in the research articles. Nursing Practice and Skill: Mechanical Ventilation in the Adult: Monitoring by Carita Caple, RN, BSN, MSHS The article commences by indicating the definition of mechanical ventilation and the manner it is used in the adult body. This is a respiratory problem, which is associated with the use of respiratory support by individuals having acute respiratory failure. The system assists individuals in having improved exchange of gases and with ease. At the same time, the patients will be capable of making the patients breathe better as the treatment of the respiratory failure is taking place (Cawley, 2011). The article gives a clear illustration of the use of mechanical ventilation otherwise known as MV. This article also shows the nature in which the MV can be used by nurses and how they can be proficient in its use. The article starts by indicating the goals it has in making people understand the use of MV and the manner in which it can be used in helping in improvement of oxygenation and ventilation. This gives rest to the patients who have a failure in their respiratory organs. The article also shows how the nurses can care for the patients receiving help in using MV as they monitor the condition of the patients (Cawley, 2011). The nurses are also taught how to set the alarm and respond to it in case of emergencies. The importance of the article is to indicate the importance of MV in the lives of people with respiratory failure. Part Two: Scholarly Paper The field of health care is vast and wide. It is for this reason why one should be able to understand how some of these diseases are normally associated with the wellbeing of individuals. The situation is question is Dissociative Identity Disorder. This condition is rampant with people who are seen to be fool of them. This is a condition of consciousness but is associated with the perception, identity and memory of one always having the urge of being alone. The issue that is to be looked at is associated with the best diagnostics for Dissociative Identity Disorder. This can well be explained if one has adequate knowledge of the condition in question. The researches that have been conducted indicate that the disorder is related to a chronic and complex posttraumatic psychology, which is related to a server child abuse which had taken place earlier. Children who find themselves in situations where they are abused or maltreated will have health problems, which are coupled with mental problems (Sachs & Galton, 2008). Dissociative identity disorder is one of those conditions vulnerable to be experienced by the individuals. The condition might occur if there is an existence of two or more personality occurrence such as severe depression, auditory hallucinations and suicidal behavior. Other conditions that are vulnerable to heighten this condition include somatization, phobic anxiety, borderline features and substance abuse. These are conditions, which are caused by a severe and predominated psychological function in the life of an individual for recurring period. It is true to assert that the children who experience abusive conditions during growth are likely to undergo mental problem during their growth. The diagnosis of this mental disorders including dissociative identity disorder is normally not carried out to the patient until later stages in life when they are adults (Sachs & Galton, 2008). This is due to the long experience of maltreatment and the patient might still have traces of traumatizing situations. The causes of this condition is said to take place at early stages in life, though it is explained that extreme physical and sexual abuse that might be ongoing usually account for the severity of the situation. These conditions if left unattended, it might see during adult hood in form of post traumatic disorder and borderline personality disorder. The cases that dissociative identity disorder exists in the life of patients, the most vulnerable conditions might be associated with sexual and physical abuse, which are normally experienced during childhoods. This condition was referred to as clinicians in the past. However, the medical practitioners have changed this name to dissociative identity disorder as they started dissociating it with some of the features found in mental health situations. This can be justified by the majority of researches conducted indicating that the majority of the adults suffering from metal conditions can trace their woes in childhood. At the same time, dissociative identity disorder can also be associated with childhood physical neglect for the children who might be diagnosed with schizophrenia (Sachs & Galton, 2008). There are conditions, which can automatically be associated with dissociative identity disorder. One of the conditions is passive withdrawal or disengagement to the environmental conditions and multiple personality disorder. The other conditions include disturbances in memory and identity. This is sometimes referred to as posttraumatic. Path-physiology This is a type of dissociation whereby the memory of an individual has been altered. This might interfere with thinking capability, actions and feelings. This makes it impossible for some conditions to be associated to certain normal actions and conditions. This condition manifests itself through severity and can be established through clinical and phenomenon behavior of the patient (Walker, Brozek, Maxfield, & Teamer, 2008). At the same time, it would be associated with the alteration of identity and memory. In cases where the case might be rendered extreme, the issue will be actualized by the existence of a set of psychiatric syndrome. The important message to the community is to ensure that these conditions do not meet the growing children. This can easily be implemented if the children are kept away from violence and abuse situations (Sachs & Galton, 2008). This might help the children as it has been reported that the adults are the only people who might receive diagnosis for this condition. At the same time, researches should be developed on the quickest way of handling these cases. References Cawley, M. (January 01, 2011).
