Project Management: Project Life Cycle Using test scenario, working with the LRH Products company, one can easily use the Project management Cycle to help guide and forge the path to success that is most certainly wanted at the end of the project. For this example, for the most part, the first Phase, the Origination phase has pretty much already been completed. The project has already been developed, thought out, and decided on. The dates, as well as what needs to be done by when has also already been decided and worked out.

For this project, this phase has been completed prior to your working with the company. The second Phase, the Initiation Phase, has somewhat already been worked out. You already have your coworkers and their available hours figured out, as well as their strengths and weaknesses. For instance, Terry likes to work with the give-away and presentations, and is not good at travel arrangements, so logically you would keep him far from making the travel arrangements. Once this phase comes to a close, the most important phase comes into play.

The Planning phrase could make or kill any project, and sufficient time should be spent planning every last detail out. You know Pat is planning on taking a vacation, so make sure to set her deadlines accordingly or be ready to cover some of her work when she is gone. Also note that Terry might be pulled away from your project to work on other things, so plan accordingly if you lose him for some amount of time. Deadlines need to be set and met, and give yourself a little room to work before them.

For example, the displays need to be shipped ten calander days before the show. You do not want them to be finished by that day, you want to make sure the displays are finished well before the ship date insace any problems arise and you need to modify something. When planning for time, remember to plan extra time if needed just incase. Better be early then to be running behind schedule. After thoroughly planning the project, one enters the Execution and Control Phase. Here is where the work is carried out.

You put in all your hours of work, train the sales people, make the flyers, and get all the work done and accounted for on schedule. Remember all the big plans you made in the last step Here is where you put them into action and go through with them. This would include going to, and successfully completing the show. Feels good to be done doesn't it The last phase is the Project closeout. Here you can sit back and look at how the project went, why it went that way, and in what ways could you have improved on it Also you can look at how well the show went, and what the costumer's response was.

Of course, this was just your first project, and as we all know how good a job you did, I'm sure a second project will be coming your way very soon.
