Managers and Management Introduction Managers are the integral part of the management system. They coordinate the upper and lower level of the organisation. Under their guidance different plans and actions are implemented in the company which helps the organisation and the management to achieve its desired goals. A big management system has different levels of managers who are responsible to look after particular functions of the company. Managers develop many strategies and plans. He motivates his staffs to implement those strategies in a successful way. The management system of organisation are divided into many structures which are helps the manager to successfully operate the business in different levels. Efficient and effective management system of the company is operated by its employee who is strongly influenced by their managers. This system helps the management to achieve its objectives. The study of management is also very important because it covers all the aspects of organising and continuing a business. Who managers are and where they work Managers are the valuable people of the organisation who facilitate work which is done by the employee of the organisation. They drive the company towards the ideal path of achieving their goals for its success. Their main work is to complete the work by being dependent on its subordinate & team members. They are the people who support and coach its subordinates and other employees of the company. There are different levels of managers in an organisation. The top level managers focus on the business plans of the long term plans of the company. They develop the strategies of the firm; create the mission and vision of the company. The functional manager of an organisation works in a selective area of a business like finance, marketing etc. They look after many things in the company like administration etc. These managers are responsible to complete the work of the company in efficient and effective way. The team members look after the coordination and function of its team and the group of particular function. The line managers are responsible to handle those works which are directly involved in the process of manufacturing the product or services. The staff managers are involved in such work which creates indirect inputs in the company. There function is to work in the supporting role of the company. The project manager performs the function of execution, planning and closer of the particular projects. They are also involved in consulting, architecture, computer networking, software development, telecommunication etc. The general manager is a person who manages the revenue of the production units, company stores, product line, business units etc. They make many decisions for different functions of the organisation. From the top executives general managers take directions. The supervisory managers are responsible in accomplishing the goals of the firm (Pattison 76-81). Management In organization or business management is defined as the function which coordinates the works and initiative for the employee to achieve the objectives and goals of the company by using the available resource in effective and efficient ways. The process of management in involved in organising, planning, leading, controlling and staffing to accomplish the target. Resourcing involves in the development of human resources, technological resources, financial resources etc. Management is also defined as an academic discipline (Ellis 53-60). It is a social science whose aim is to enhance social organisations. This process is associated in identifying the objectives, mission, procedure, rules of the company. The management system of a company gives motivation to the employees which results in successful progression process. Through an efficient management system the firm forecasts its different strategies and policies and according to that the company implement its plans. In most of the profitable organisations management’s functions is to satisfy its stakeholders. This process involves in profit making, manufacturing value products at an affordable price, offering huge employment opportunities to the staffs etc, in non profit organisation management helps in maintain the faith of its donors. Management is often included in the factor of production along with material, money, machine etc. The main function of this involves both innovation and marketing. The modern management started from 16th century for the low efficiency and failures of many companies. This process consists of coordinating and creating corporate policies and directing those policies for organisational growth. The managers and directors are responsible for implementing the management system and process. The management size differs from company to company. It may range from one manager to hundreds of managers in multinational firms. Management is also divided into many levels in big companies. The top level management works deals only the most important things of the company, it involves in the process of guiding and planning strategies. The middle level management system is accountable to the top level management. It is responsible for supporting the lower level managers. Other management levels looks after the other functions of the company (Ferraro 87-91). What managers do The major function of the managers is to develop the company and achieve its success. This function is achieved by implementing some major steps by the managers. They are as follows: Planning In this step the manager maps out the plan of how to achieve a specific goal of the company. For example if the company have has its goal of improving its sales then the manager first have to figure out the necessary steps required to accomplish its goal. Here the planning is done to increase inventory, advertising, sales staff etc. When the plan is in shape the managers implement that plans for the organisational development (Bereaux 47-51). Organizing After the planning stage the manager has to organize the resources & team for implementing the plans. He assigns work and grand’s authority to his subordinate for dividing the work among the employees. Staffing The manager sort out the business areas in which he feel the need of beefing up his subordinates. He also performs the functions of recruiting staffs, providing training, developing the employees. In large organisation a manager also work for the human resource development. Leading A manager also has to perform the function of the leader. He is involved in the process of motivating, guiding, communicating and encouraging the employees. He also solves the problems of the staffs by assisting and coaching them. Controlling Keeping all the elements in place the manager has to perform the duty of checking the results of implemented plans constantly. If required then he also requires to corrective actions to operate the plan on the right track. The managers of all levels of the company perform this works. He wears many hats. He establishes, analyzes different functions and performance of his staffs. A manager helps in synchronizing activities of the company. Why it’s important to study management Management theories are based on the observation and mathematic calculation for constructing models of different types of business. The study of the management involves the case studies and the experiences of the managers in handling different situation in their workplace. Management studies help a person to understand and to focus on his important work. It increases the capability of the person to manage different situations. This study gives an idea about the history of business or industry. The different management strategies and plans which used by the business are recognised here. It is a vital tool for having an idea about human nature and its endeavour. It throws light on the future and present industry trends. Management studies are important for the person who desires to be successful in the environment of the business. The functions of the business are explained in details which helps the student to know about the business process. Study of this subjects helps to grow many new managers who are capable of operating the present business. The course of management study is vital because it develop the set skills of its students which help them to face internal and external business environments. This study gives opportunists to the managers for improving the competitiveness of its business. It provides them with the capabilities and ideas which puts them in an advantageous position of the company. This subject helps its student to deal with challenges and manipulate challenges in their favour. It also highlights the process of managing people through general process (Armstrong 44- 50). The studies of management involve different subjects like finance, marketing, operations, human resource etc which develop all the aspects of the student. He will learn about the policies, management theories, employment relations etc. It helps to understand how an organisation works. Factors that are reshaping and redefining management Certain steps should be followed by the company for reshaping and redefining its management system. Today’s manager must be aware of the changing situations of the workplace. They have to deals these situations very tactfully. The employee of the organisations must be trained in such a way so that accept the changing workplace situations and give their best performance. The managers have to very conscious about the ethical and trust issues of the company. For reshaping its management the managers have to take and follow ethical decisions which will make the management of the company strong. The managers have to prepare the organisation in such a way that it makes the company and its management strong enough to handle economic uncertainty of the world. The management should reshape itself by changing its technologies in the business process. The introduction of new technologies helps the business to achieve its growth by developing new products and facilities. Another factor important for reshaping and redefining management is maintaining good customer service facilities. By providing outstanding facility to its customer the business can grow itself rapidly. Therefore the managers of the business should take these necessary actions for redefining and reshaping its management system. Conclusion In the present scenario the leadership skills of the managers are helping the business to grow. The multinational companies have several managers who operated the business in different levels focusing on the situation and available resources. The study of management helps to grow many new managers who know to face business challenges properly and manipulate it on their favour. There are some steps which should be implemented by the managers for reshaping the management system. These steps are like overcoming the huddles of changing situations of the workplace, managing trust and ethical issues, improving and changing technologies, managing good customer services etc. Both Manager and management are important to maintain well organised business.
