? Peer Review It is irrefutable presently; diabetes has become a global predicament affecting numerous people owing to their altered lifestyles and social cultural changes. This is because diabetic people besides experiencing the disease’s severity are also nursing other complications, which have resulted due to their condition. Consequently, this has yielded to colossal funding especially by the states’ regimes in aiding their citizens to manage it and prolong their lives. For instance, US contends of having used approximately more than $174 billion 2007 both in managing and treatment of the disease. However, the two articles depict still an increasing trend of diabetes prevalence especially among the Hispanic people who compared to other ethnic groups normally bear high percentage suffering from diabetes. The articles also reveal the utter severity of diabetes, which prompts both the policy makers and health care facilities to adopt timely strategies meant to reduce its prevalence. Conversely, they have also contended that, implementation of adequate strategies will not eliminate diabetes from the world due to the rapid people’s changing lifestyles and eating habits. This is especially among the elderly who at the age of 45 years tend to adopt sedentary lifestyle and start depending on their relatives besides youths presently joining the lot. 1. Diabetes Projection of the year 2050 burden of diabetes in the US adult population: dynamic modeling of incidence, mortality, and prediabetes prevalence. By Boyle, J. P., Thompson, T. J., Gregg, E. W., Barker, L. E., & Williamson, D. F. and Diabetes and stress: an anthropological review for study of modernizing populations in the US-Mexico border region. By Ely, J., Zavaskis, T., & Wilson, S. Diabetes has become a dreadful disease affecting global states, but mostly the Americans owing to their lifestyles’ alteration. Mainly, the condition is also evident in other developed states (Ely, Zavaskis & Wilson, 2011). Consequently, this has intrigued me into wanting to know much regarding the state of the disease besides its rates both presently and in future. This because diabetes is mostly rampant in US compared to other states where some hypothesis have cited certain races as having higher prevalence and vulnerable to the disease (Ely, Zavaskis & Wilson, 2011). Additionally, numerous nutritionists and health practitioners have also cited Americans’ sedentary lifestyle as another major contributing factor. Primarily, this affects elderly people above the age of 45 years since they have ceased from being active in their lives and they tend to depend on their relatives. Besides, I was eager in wanting to ascertain whether the rates are decreasing or increasing despite numerous Americans presently being aware of the diabetes causes (Boyle, Thompson, Gregg, Barker & Williamson, 2010). 2. The significance of the two studies The studies’ significance entails highlighting dreadful diabetes prevalence statistics presently in US. Mostly, these are rampant among the Native Americans where in the earlier years it was nonexistent, which is contrary to the current state. The two articles specifically depict the high incidences of diabetic people among the Hispanics where the rates show an increasing trend contrary to other Non-Hispanic whites. Researchers have contended and even cited the cause of high prevalence in this ethnic group is due to the varying modern circumstances, which normally affect their economic stability (Ely, Zavaskis & Wilson, 2011). Hence, prompting them to adopt poor eating habits and sedentary lifestyles mostly evident among the youths presently. Besides, the studies have also indicated how diabetic people are at high risk of developing other maladies owing to their decreased body immunity. This has cost US healthcare approximately over $174 billion in 2007 where researchers have also cited rapid rise in the subsequent years (Boyle, Thompson, Gregg, Barker & Williamson, 2010). These articles despite depicting an increasing burden to the US and global states, they are essential to the policymakers. Since they normally utilize them in devising effective plans prior to the diabetes’ financial toll paralyses their economies (Ely, Zavaskis & Wilson, 2011). Hence, enable the US to offer the necessitated assistance to the diabetic people besides implementing effective prevention measures. 3. The sources of funding and monitoring of subjects or content in the studies Data collection or computation of these studies did not entail any form of funding since they merely relied on already attained and documented information (Caspersen, Darlene, Boseman, Beckles, Albright, 2012). Mainly, the researchers’ core purpose encompassed comparing and reviewing diverse US healthcare Diabetes’ documents coupled with utilizing Google search in projecting future prevalence (Ely, Zavaskis & Wilson, 2011). In addition, they also developed models and equations meant to capture the incidences of elderly US diabetic people whose their population is augmenting with time presently. 4. The intended method of comparison Comparison basis will be mainly on the authors’ presentation of diabetes information in relation to the effects they have contended affecting the US population presently (Ely, Zavaskis & Wilson, 2011). Besides, it will also encompass the mode of attaining the information with the intention of gauging its validity (Boyle, Thompson, Gregg, Barker & Williamson, 2010). This is to compare them with the diverse arguments, which the two articles normally hold regarding Diabetes prevalence among the Hispanic people and the future predictions. 5. The impact of the studies on health care delivery Studies’ core purpose is to influence health care delivery especially towards the most affected populations. These include Hispanics, the elderly and those people who are experiencing socioeconomic instabilities who have adopted poor eating habits. Hence, prompt the responsible organs to implement adequate measures meant for timely public health intervention targeted at diabetes epidemic (Ely, Zavaskis & Wilson, 2011). This is because widespread execution of preventive measures focused on the affected subgroups, will yield to a considerable reduction, though it will not eliminate diabetes’ prevalence (Boyle, Thompson, Gregg, Barker & Williamson, 2010). Primarily, this is due to changed lifestyles besides social cultural changes evident in the presently in the world word (Caspersen, Darlene, Boseman, Beckles, Albright, 2012). Table 1: Articles' Comparison Table Articles’ Comparison Table Articles Projection of the year 2050 burden of diabetes in the US adult population: dynamic modeling of incidence, mortality, and prediabetes prevalence By Boyle, J. Diabetes and stress: an anthropological review for study of modernizing populations in the US-Mexico border region By Ely, J., Zavaskis, T., & Wilson, S. Research method in this article entails reviewing other studies in relation to social cultural changes affecting Hispanics and other categories having high diabetes prevalence. Focus of the study It focuses on the future diabetes impacts suppose presently the healthcare personnel and policymakers fail to implement adequate preventive measures.
