Cellphones among school-going children Proposal The use of cell phones among school-going children is one of the controversial issues in society. There are varying views on this topic, and it has not been possible to decide whether equipping school children with cell phones is right or wrong. People have therefore been divided on the issue and individual parents have been left with the task of deciding the way forward for their children. The controversy is of great significance to many people in the society in which we live as both technological innovation and the education of the students are of utmost importance. In this light, deciding not to buy the cell phones for children has its advantages and disadvantages. Also, deciding to buy cellphones for the students has disadvantages and advantages that ought to be considered. Those against the idea of cells for students argue that they are disruptive and affect their concentration. On my part, I support the idea of equipping the students with the cell phones. There are several reasons for this stand that cannot be overlooked. For instance, the cell phones provide an easy channel of communication between parents and their children. In this light, the gadgets help ensure that parents can check on their children when they are not around. Secondly, I believe that the use of cellphones among the children from an early age helps open up their minds and increases the chance of innovation and the invention of technological gadgets. Moreover, the cell phones provide a source of leisure for the students and are crucial for their growth and development. However, this point may be invalidated on the basis that cell phones cause disruption among the pupils. Another point in support of cellphones for school-going children is that they help the students to research and learn new things through the Internet. Annotated Bibliography Twebaze, Richard Merichard. "Mobile Phone Use In Ugandas Boarding Secondary Schools: A Case Study Of Bushenyi District." Mier Journal Of Educational Studies, Trends, And Practices 5.1 (2015). The case study explains the effects that the cell phones have on students in Uganda who area allowed to use the cells not only at home but also in school. In the research conducted by Richard and his subordinates, the school allows students to carry their phones to school. According to the study, the availability of cellphones is a source of security for the students, which in turn helps boost their classroom confidence (Twebaze and Richard 23). Moreover, the students involved in the case study argued that keeping close contact with their parents at home helped give them the motivation to work hard. Richard adds that “cell phones not only allow the students to talk to their parents but also gives them a chance to expand their knowledge through research” (Twebaze and Richard 45). The source is credible and reliable as it covers actual research on the issue at hand. The students in the school also gave their contribution on the topic and thus provided a fair chance of deciding the way forward on the issue at hand. The school heads also explained the role that the phones have played in helping ensure the discipline of the students through the help of their parents. The information gathered from this source was different as it provided first-hand research information from a school already using the cell phones for the school-going children. It can therefore be seen as source of firsthand information that has been effectively researched previously in a school setting.one of the information that it provides and the other sources do not provide is the response from the children themselves on how cellphones influences them. The source will help me support the point that cellphones among school going children help them in research and acquiring general knowledge. Beland, Louis-Philippe, and Richard J. Murphy. "Mobile Phones & Student Performance." (2013). Beland (et el) asserts that school-going children should be equipped with cell phones to help prepare them for future roles. His argument is based on the fact that exposure to such gadgets will help open up their minds and make them more sociable. He adds that “in children there is power but there is even more power in the empowering of the children from a young age through technology” (Beland and Richard 30). The information gathered from the article is highly credible. The writers are renowned in the field of mind psychology, and also have a lot of experience with issues to do with the minds of school going children. In this light, their contribution is highly reliable and cannot be overlooked. The source is also objective as it outlines the advantages that cell phones will have on the children and the society as a whole. The purpose of the reference is to enlighten the community on the role that cells play in the life and growth of the children and in their performance. The source is different from the other sources as it focuses on the classroom performance of the students that other sources do not. It therefore emphasizes the role of cellphones on performance. The information from this source is different from the others as it focuses on how cellphones affects the mind of the children. Moreover, the source helps support the point that cellphones make the children more sociable as they can have issues to share and discuss. ‘Cellphones for school kids’ YouTube.CNN, 25 May 2014.Web. 10. June.2014. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nw_yunuN7GU) The video outlines the various advantages of allowing cell phone use among school-going children. The speaker in the video asserts that mobile phones are only destructive to the children if they are not controlled. In this light, the video champions for the need to allow parents to purchase cell phones for their children and argues that mobile phones only help develop the social life of the children. Moreover, in the video, the cellphones are portrayed as tools of power that can be used to communicate urgent issues that cannot be made to wait. The purpose of the video was to champion for the availing of more cellphones among school-going students. The video also raises several reasons in support of this controversial issue. The reliability of the video along with its credibility is ascribed to the fact that a former research on the role of technology in society from Harvard University incepted it. The ideas of such renowned professors can therefore not be overlooked nor ignored. The source was also different from the others in that every reason was backed by previous researches conducted by the professor on the role of technology in the society. The information from the source will, therefore, help build on the contribution of previous researchers who argues that cell phones are tools of power among the school-going children. In doing this, the source will also support the idea that cellphones and technology are tools of power that ought to be embraced by the society. ‘Empowering the children’YouTube.Edubase, 23 Jan 2012.10 March.2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?x=eeXFlca9 The video was developed to support the idea that cell phones are the source of power for school-going children. The information gathered from this source helped to support my view that cell phones are not just tools of communication but also gadgets for invention and innovation. The producer of the video argues that “if children are allowed to handle electronic gadgets from an early age, then this can help them become future inventors”. In the video, the idea of how the mind is affected by exposure is evaluated, hence the need to allow cell phone use among school-going children. The video can be said to be credible as the producer had more videos on different topics under their name. As such, their contribution to the problem can be deemed reliable. Moreover, it was precise, and also provided more valid arguments in support of cellphone use among school-going children. The use of the video will, therefore, help me prove that cell phones are not always destructive but with control from parents, can be the greatest tools of empowerment among the school-going children. The source was different from other sources in that it tries to prove that cellphones are not destructive to children as previously alluded. Also, the information gathered from the source will help support my point that invention is only possible if the children are allowed to handle the cells from an early age. Summative, the use of cellphones among the children from an early age helps open up their minds and increases the chance of innovation and the invention of technological gadgets.
